Xavier Simón will present the experiences of this European project for the creation of rural energy communities in Galicia and Estonia.
Xavier Simón, coordinator of the LIFE EC4RURAL project, Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Vigo and Transfer Director of CISPAC, will give the opening speech this Friday, 5th April (9.30 h) at the Training and Information Day on Energy Transition in the Territory of the Rural Development Group (RDG) Terra e Auga, aimed at the mayors of the municipalities that constitute this territory in the south of Pontevedra. They are A Cañiza, As Neves, Arbo, Covelo, Crecente, Mondariz, Mondariz Balneario, Ponteareas, Salceda de Caselas and Salvaterra de Miño.
The title of Xavier Simón’s presentation will be “Local Energy Communities (LEC). The role of local authorities” and he will also participate in the round table (10.30 – 11.00 h) that will close the event.
One of the strategic objectives of the RDG Terra e Agua is to promote the ecological transition of the territory, which is why it is organising this forum for dialogue and participation, bringing together both the municipalities that are members of the RDG and experts in the sector.
During the meeting, Alfonso Fernández, industrial engineer and managing director of LUMEA, an engineering company specialising in energy transition, will discuss the role of the local business sector in the energy transition and the synergies and possible alliances with local entities.
Round table
After the briefing, the mayors, together with the speakers, will participate in a round table moderated by Paco González, director of RDG Terra e Auga to discuss RDG Terra e Auga’s “Xera” project, around which an inter-municipal strategy for energy transition in the area is being designed and planned. Like Xera, the EC4RURAL project, funded by the LIFE programme, aims to deepen and transform the relationship between the political authorities and the municipalities, so that the rural area becomes a leading actor in the energy transition.
It should be noted that Simón’s participation in this conference is also the result of previous actions to disseminate and promote synergies with RDGs in Galicia, such as the one that took place last February at the headquarters of the FEGAMP.
