The conference Energy Communities in the Rural World: Challenges, Opportunities and Realities was a meeting that brought together more than a hundred people at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, including participants and attendees, who wanted to be trained and updated on different success stories from all over Spain. Through short and dynamic presentations, the people responsible for each of the initiatives showed the social dynamics that have led to the development of these energy communities and shared the legal solutions that have accompanied the collective management of this type of community. They also presented technological proposals adapted to rural areas and reviewed the different business models available to promote the development of this type of community.
The participants were mainly technicians and politicians from several municipalities in the four provinces, but also energy service companies, forest communities, rural action groups, environmental groups, university students…
The aim of the Galician Wind Energy Observatory (OEGA) and the LIFE EC4RURAL project is to ensure that rural communities are not left behind in the energy transition process, so good practices were shared with rural citizens and technical staff working in this field, so that territories have more options in decision-making and to see that progress is possible with success stories from all over the country.
