The RDG Terra e Auga, located in the south of the province of Pontevedra, has taken a step forward in the energy transition by organising a four-day (20 hours) introductory course for rural energy communities. The first two sessions will be taught by Xavier Simón, Professor of Applied Economics and EC4RURAL coordinator, and Almudena Fiunte, project technician.

The first training session took place on Tuesday 25th June and was split into two parts. In the first, a theoretical presentation on electricity systems was given, followed by a participatory dynamic to work on the concepts seen, which generally dealt with the current situation of the energy market, the energy transition and decentralised electricity generation through energy communities, which is the model on which EC4RURAL is based.

In the second part, the theoretical presentation was accompanied by the viewing of a video on Energy Citizenship, with a subsequent discussion among the participants to deepen the change that EC4RURAL is pursuing: the evolution from the consumer model to the prosumer.

The second session, led by EC4RURAL technicians, will take place on Wednesday, 30th July.

The RDG Terra e Auga Rural Energy Communities Initiation Course will continue after the summer. On 17th September (9:00-14:00), the teacher will be Carlos Amoeiro Souto from the University of A Coruña, and on 20th September, Mauro Vázquez Álvarez, from Belian Energy.

Aligned with EC4RURAL

It should be recalled that of the 22 Galician municipalities participating in the Galician EC4RURAL pilot, one of them, Salvaterra de Miño (Pontevedra), is part of the RDG Terra e Auga.

This supra-municipal entity has always been in line with the principles and objectives of the project. In fact, on 4th April, Xavier Simón, Professor of Applied Economics and coordinator of EC4RURAL, was invited to a working session in which the feasibility of the Xera project was studied. This will be the strategic tool of the RDG Terra e Auga, which will promote the energy transition at supra-municipal level in ten municipalities of the territory: A Cañiza, As Neves, Arbo, Covelo, Crecente, Mondariz, Mondariz Balneario, Ponteareas, Salceda de Caselas and Salvaterra de Miño.
