Introduction

The municipality of Entrimo is located in the southwest of the province of Ourense, in the region of Baixa Limia, about 70 kilometres from the provincial capital. It has, in 2022, a population of 1,120 inhabitants, has an area of 84.52 square kilometres, has a degree of urbanisation of Sparsely Populated Area, according to the Galician Institute of Statistics.

It is part of the Limia-Arnoia Rural Development Group (RDG10).

The population of Entrimo has registered a dynamic of continuous growth, with an increase of 11.65%, which is more favourable than the 1.5% decrease registered for the whole of Galicia between 1991 and 2022. The Total Dependency Ratio (TDR) in Entrimo shows a significant increase and a link between the municipality and its province, which will have a positive impact on development and socio-economic balance in the long term.

Economy

The evolution of Gross Disposable Product (GDP) in Entrimo shows a dynamic evolution of its GDP, very much in line with the trend at provincial and regional level. Between 2012 and 2016 there was a notable increase, followed by a notable decrease between 2018 and 2020, attributed to the impacts of the pandemic. However, in the entire period between 2010 and 2018, Entrimo’s GDP experienced a 20% growth, outperforming the Galician GDP, with 6.14%, and contrasting the downward trend observed in the province as a whole, of -1.8%.

Subsequently, between 2018 and 2020, all territories experienced a marked reduction in their GDP, with a notable decrease of 21.5% in Entrimo’s municipal GDP, a significant drop compared to that experienced in Galicia as a whole (-7.7%) and in the province of Ourense (-9%). This trend translates into a 5.7% decrease in Entrimo’s municipal GDP in the period 2010-2020, lower than the 10.5% reduction observed in the province, while in Galicia it only decreased by 2%. However, the total GDP of the municipality reached 11.14 million euros in 2020, which represents 0.2% of the provincial GDP of Ourense and only 0.02% of the Autonomous Community.

The Gross Disposable Income (GDI) shows similarities at Galician and provincial level between the years 2002 and 2020. In the case of Entrimo, it increased by 2.5% and then declined by -23% until 2014. A recovery followed until 2020, due to the effects of the pandemic. Thereafter, there is a decrease until 2014. Thereafter, there is a period of expansion of 16% until 2020, where it falls again due to the effects of the pandemic.

In the second period of expansion, from 2014 to 2020, the growth of the RBD was in line with that of the groups, with 16% in Entrimo, 13% in Galicia and 16% in Ourense respectively. The pandemic generated a decline in GDI in the territory, with a loss of 4% in 2020 where the income per inhabitant was around 10,672 euros. However, Entrimo’s GDI shows a decrease in global terms, in contrast to the territorial groups. In 2020, the RBD of the municipality was 8%.

Using the register of social security affiliations as an estimate of municipal employment, the results showed a positive growth trend. Between 2011 and 2022, Entrimo had an increase of 15%, higher than the 7.4% registered at Galician level and 11% at provincial level.

Analysed by sector, the primary sector recorded a reduction of 20% and represents 10% of the municipality’s affiliations. The secondary sector decreased by only 3%, which represents 24% of the affiliations. The tertiary sector accounts for 14.4% of affiliations, representing 66% of municipal affiliations.

In 2022, Entrimo had an activity rate of 63%. The employment rate increased significantly to around 52%. The unemployment rate fell from 24.6% in 2011 to 13% in 2022. The employment rate fell from 23.5% in 2011 to 17% in 2022. This reveals a favourable evolution of the labour market in Entrimo, with an increase in economic activity.

Energy resources

Entrimo has no relevant renewable energy production facilities. Consequently, initiatives that promote and incorporate renewable energy generation facilities into the territory will play a crucial role in boosting local energy development.

The electricity consumption of Entrimo in 2023 was 2,235.78 MWh. 1,441.58 MWh was consumed by households. The consumption of services, including municipal services, was 726.04 MWh. Industry consumed 68.16 MWh.

The first meeting in Entrimo with citizens and stakeholders did not take place as the situation in this municipality is very advanced.

They were formed as an association to develop the energy community and have therefore also formed the Driving Group and the Core Group.
